Southern Cross Inn Matsumoto

Amazing location. Close to the Matsumoto Castle, Frog Street, and in walking distances to the most of the city. Loved the Japense style of bathroom. Room was big for three people and two large suitcases. Really cool to have actual keys to open the hotel door.

The location was perfect, 3 min from the castle but still close to the station and other places in town.

The room smelled a lot like cigarettes. We realized we had the smoking room, we told the staff at the reception and the man was very kind and helpful. He couldn’t change our room but he gave us an air purifier, using that it was a bit better. The furniture has not been changed since the 60s.

It's an old school, no-frills 3-star hotel. Nothing fancy about it, but everything is as it should be, and very affordable. Location is roughly equidistant from the main sights & stations.

Solid hotel with an ample room. Great location just a short walk to the castle.

Breakfast did not offer a lot of variety, but it was still interesting.

Good breakfast buffet. Very close to Matsumoto castle and about a 15 min walk to Matsumoto station. Lots of restaurants nearby. Offers free luggage storage.

A little bit far from the train station, no restaurants in the immediate vicinity, need to walk about 10 min to reach shops and restaurants.

Tidy and peaceful, the best rest you can ask for while touring this beautiful area. The room was comfortable and very clean, and the private bath really makes the day start or end in comfort

The biggest room I have stayed in all of japan. The location is absolutely perfect, 5 mins walk from the matsumoto castle.If you have decided to stay in matsumoto congratulations, as you have made a really good choice, for your stay, blindly trust this.

Room was small but very comfortable. Breakfast was very good. Good location, close to the castle. Parking provided for a fee close by.

Everything was all right.

The hotel was a 5 minute walk to Matsumoto Castle so we were able to walk back easily at night to get some photos of the Castle lit up. The bed was comfortable and the breakfast had some nice variety, was well cooked and was hot. It was a short walk away from the Street of Frogs and generally all the places we wanted to see. It was within 10-15 minutes walk from Matsumoto Railway Station.

There was a musty smell in the room as if someone had been smoking even though it was a Non smoking room. I would have appreciated a comfortable lounge sitting area, perhaps in the lobby as there was no space in the room.

The free breakfast was excellent with a wide range of freshly prepared food that was different every morning/

Room, parking and staff are very good

Rooms were as expected, business hotel size. It was fine for us as a couple and our two adult children were ok in a double with one sleeping on the floor. The parking lot is very close to the hotel with allocated spaces and it costs a reasonable ¥1000 per day. You can come and go as you please. Only 10 minutes walk to the impressive Matsumoto-jo (the castle) and we enjoyed a special ftee sound and illumination event at night at the castle on the weekend we were staying. The owner is friendly and helpful. We felt welcomed. If we stay again we will use the free bicycles to ride around the city. This is a good hotel to use in Matsumoto.

Breakfast dishes that should have been hiot (scrambled eggs, sausages) were cold in the first morning and warm on the second day. Aside from that, we were very satisfied with our stay.
